hey,
a few new things this month! firstly, thank you for all the love you’ve given ‘dark side’. it’s been so fulfilling seeing it out in the world and hearing your thoughts on the songs. to celebrate 1 month of the project, I put my graphic designer chops on and made some t-shirts… big hugs to everyone who's picked one up! I’m excited to see you wearing them!
this limited run is available until June 10th if you’d like to get one… order via this link for a special mailing list discount (or use code MAILCLUB10). each sale goes a long way in supporting my new music recording & live show costs, so thank you <3
speaking of live shows… last night I announced a sydney show, and this morning I woke up to it being SOLD OUT! you did that! overnight!!! I’m beyond excited to see you there, it’s going to be really special. if you missed out - I’m hoping to do some more shows soon. stay tuned…
at the start of the month I had a weekend away to celebrate the EP release. Lara and I road-tripped up the north coast which was stunning. we stayed on a farm and I swam under a waterfall inside a volcanic crater !! (it was freezing but so cool) and we ate so much yummy food.
sadly, while we were away my cat Sammi’s health rapidly went downhill… I got home just in time to say goodbye to her. she was in a bad way and hardly looking at me or my family, but I sat with her and played her a song on the guitar, and afterwards she looked up at me as if to say ‘it’s okay’. it was a sweet final moment. she lived a good 16 years. I didn’t think losing her would hit me as hard as it did, but it’s hard saying goodbye to someone who was there for so much of your life… if you’ve been through the same thing recently, I’m sending you my love.
“when you hate the world, go to sleep. when you hate yourself, take a shower. when you hate everyone around you, eat some food.”
Lara shared that quote with me last week when I was feeling overwhelmed and over-worked lol it seems so simple, but it’s a good reminder and checklist for when you’re feeling shitty and don’t know why. take the time to look after yourself! it’s okay to slow down! when I started writing these letters in January, I spoke about wanting to find more balance in my life, and make more space to switch off and take care of myself.
recently, I’ve found myself obsessing over the things I’m working on and losing sleep and stamina because of it, sending me into a spiral. it’s a constant process towards getting better at balance, especially when my ‘work’ is something I love and care so much about. I feel privileged to get to do what I do and it feels like a non-stop process and burning desire to constantly grow and evolve and make new things - but I have to remind myself to make time to switch-off and live, otherwise I’ll burn out and do the opposite of growing and evolving… sometimes the best thing you can do for ‘output’ is take a break! so may this be a small reminder for anyone feeling the same.
another quote I heard this month about growth which I loved:
“a child is unaware of it’s growth, but to everyone else it is magic.”
I love that analogy. it’s so easy to be blind to the ways in which each of us are growing every day. sometimes I feel like I haven’t earned “time to relax” because I feel like I haven’t achieved the things I want to achieve. but it’s important to take a step back and be proud of how far you’ve come, and celebrate the small wins! don’t beat yourself up.
in terms of the new things I have been obsessing over though… I’m starting to think about what’s next in the chris lanzon universe… how would you feel about more music this year? muhahaha
if you’re coming to the show, I’ll see you soon & show you some of the new tunes there.
much love x
chris
